Direct Rehoming
What is direct rehoming? Direct rehoming is a service offered by Rugby Cats Protection when our foster places are full. Cats remain with their owners whilst we seek to find them a new home. When we find a suitable match, the prospective new owner is put in touch with the current owner to arrange a viewing and potential adoption. This method of rehoming is extremely successful, with the majority of cats being rehomed this way. Direct rehoming is also an option for those who would prefer not to have their cat placed in foster care but would like our help to find a suitable new home.
How much does this service cost? There is no fee for direct rehoming but we are always grateful to receive donations and so if you would like to donate please discuss this with one of our volunteers. Donations do not have to be monetary as we are also fortunate that both Vets4Pets (Bilton Road) and Sainsburys (Dunchurch) have collection bins for us. No money should be exchanged between the owner and adopter.
Requirements for direct rehoming All cats going through our direct rehoming service must be neutered/spayed. Cats Protection operates a national neutering scheme and so if your cat is presently not neutered please contact us for a discount neutering voucher which will be supplied directly to your vet prior to neutering. Once neutering has taken place, we can seek to find a new home for your cat. All owners must supply us with clear photos – the more clear photos you supply, the more attention your cat is likely to receive and we would encourage you to only send us the very best photos.
Notice Period We require as much notice as possible that you need to rehome your cat. Even if you are trying to find a new home through friends and family first, we would recommend that you contact us also rather than relying on us as a last option. Whilst some cats are rehomed in a few days, the majority take several weeks to find a new home and so it is imperative that you give us as much notice as possible. The ultimate responsibility of finding a new home remains with the owner, and so although we will try our very best to help you find a new home we cannot guarantee that this will be successful if given limited time. Please remember that it is an offence to abandon any animal.
Important Notice As all cats that are up for adoption via our direct rehoming service remain in the care of their original owner and are not in the care of Rugby Cats Protection, we accept no responsibility for any cat’s that are being rehomed via this service.
