Life According to Casper

Day 33 of my blog!

Hi everyone,

Casper here!

I’m sorry for the big gap in my posts. To be honest, I’ve had lots of better things to do (only joking).

I wanted to show you how much Autumn and I have grown over the last two weeks. I’m still bigger, but both of us are really healthy and loving life.

I’m definitely more outgoing, especially with my kisses. Autumn is still very cuddly, but I have the loudest purr, especially when it’s food time!

It won’t be long until our next jabs and then we can go outside. Can’t wait!

Love Casper

Day 32 of my blog!

Happy Christmas everyone!

Here’s Autumn and me playing with our new present

Day 31 of my blog!

Hi everyone.

Happy Christmas. It’s Casper here.

Guess what’s just dropped through our letterbox?

“ Have I got mews for You”! It’s the latest edition of the Rugby Cat’s protection magazine. It’s full of interesting stuff. There’s lots of information about kittens and cats. The bit about keeping us safe at Christmastime is really good.

Anyway, they’re going to have to do an extra print run. That’s because they’ve put a picture of me on the back cover!

I think even Autumn is a little bit proud,

With love,

Casper and Autumn.

Day 30 of my blog!

Hi everyone,

Yesterday I told you why I was called Casper. Now Autumn wants to get in on the act!

Autumn is called Autumn because she was born in the Autumn (I think they were running out of ideas when they came up with that one!)

And …guess what? I can’t think of any famous Autumns. Until now that is. Even though she’s my little sister, she is quite nice, isn’t she?

Love,

Casper

Day 29 of my blog!

Hi everybody,

I’ve been trying to find out why I’m called Casper!

Apparently, the name Casper is a boy's name of Scandinavian, Persian origin meaning "bringer of treasure". (That would be a dead mouse then?)

There have been a number of famous Caspers. Casper Weinberger and Casper Van Dien. (I’ve never heard of them!)

I’m called Casper because I was born near to Halloween. And, there’s a well known ghost called Casper. I hope he was friendly!! Yikes!!

Day 28 of my blog!

Hi everyone,

Why do people have cats?

I can tell you why!

  1. We are low maintenance (compared to doggies)
  2. We are quiet (unless we need food!)
  3. We are independent
  4. We keep pests under control
  5. We live long lives.

Above all, and I know you know it – we are gorgeous! (Proof is in the photos!)

Love,

Casper

Day 27 of my blog!

Hi folks!

Guess where we’re off to? The vets!

Today is the time that we have our second vaccinations. We had our first ones about 3 weeks ago, and, we then have to have them done every year.

It’s really important that we do this. It stops kittens and cats getting poorly from horrible infections and bugs. And, do you know what? It doesn’t even hurt. It’s over in a few seconds.

And that’s great news, because the sooner we get home the more we can get back to playing!

Love

Casper and Autumn (brave kittens)

Day 26 of my blog!

Hi fellow workers,

It’s been a very exciting day today!

Autumn and I have been to work!

We helped write some emails, checked out all of the cupboards, and did a Zoom! (I think that’s what you call it when you charge around and around?)

Zooooooooooooom!!!

We also met the “official” office cat. His name is Mitchell. He told us that the pay is rubbish, but the snacks are great!

Day 25 of my blog!

Hello Casper Fans,

Well, what a day I’ve had today!

First of all, Autumn and I met another new friend. Her name is Luna. Although she’s fully grown, she’s only a bit bigger than me! We watched the birds together. (Autumn still has an unhealthy interest in them!)

Then, my Dad came in and we love that. We pretend his big tummy is a bouncy castle. He also lets us play with the toggles on his jumper. Who needs expensive toys?

Life’s great!

Day 24 of my blog!

Hi everyone,

It’s Casper time!

I want to talk about Vets.

Vets are lovely people. They are always trying to make poorly cats better, or stopping them from becoming poorly.

If your family don’t have a vet that they use, can I suggest that you do the following.

  1. Dead easy – ask friends which one they use! Word of mouth is best!
  2. Find one close to where you live. This makes it easier for kittens if we don’t like travelling in cars.
  3. Make sure you can get appointments at short notice in case it’s urgent.

Love Casper

PS I’m getting a bit worried that Autumn is almost as cute as me. Listen to her purr!

Day 23 of my blog!

It’s Casper here.

So, Autumn and I are now 11 weeks old. That means we have only 7 weeks to go until we are allowed outside. (Hopefully Autumn will have given up her interest in birds by then!)

You must definitely not let us outside until we have had all our vaccinations and have been neutered. (We don’t want local boy cats chatting Autumn up, do we?)

In the meantime, what’s Autumn doing? Oh no!!!

I’ll talk to her!

Love

Cats Protection says "If you are thinking about letting your cat outside for the first time, have a look at our guide Keeping Your Cat Safe Outisde"

https://www.cats.org.uk/help-and-advice/home-and-environment/keeping-cats-safe-outside

Day 22 of mt blog!

Hi animal lovers!

Did you notice what I did there? I’ve called everyone animal lovers, because it’s a well known fact that people who love cats are the best in the world. That means they generally love all animals as well!!!

So, as Autumn and I are growing up, I’ve noticed that Autumn is taking a big interest in the birds that fly outside of our window. It’s only natural for us to like birds, as they are our natural prey. However, we don’t really want to hurt them …. we just can’t stop ourselves when we become big cats.

There are a few things that a nice cat owner can do to help look after birds in their garden.

  1. Keep us well fed and looked after – that way we won’t stray far from home looking for food.
  2. Keep us indoors for an hour before sunset, and an hour after sunrise. This is when birds are looking for food.
  3. And the easiest thing – put a bell on our collar so the birds can hear us coming!

So as handsome and cute as I am, I also want to be a responsible cat when I go outdoors ….which I think is only a few weeks away!! Whehay!!

See you soon,

Love

Day 21 of my blog!

Hi Everyone,

Only a few words today because it’s Saturday and I’m playing all day!

So here’s some photos of Autumn and me to remind you how gorgeous we are!

Day 20 of my blog!

Hi cat people!

It’s Casper here. Today is a big day. Autumn and I are meeting Daryl for the first time.

The things I notice about Daryl are that 1) he is fluffy, 2) he is huge 3) he is very cuddly.

When kittens meet cats for the first time there are 3 simple rules that humans need to follow.

  1. Keep Your Cats Separated At First. Set up a special isolation room for your new kitten or cat
  2. Slowly Let The Cats See Each Other.
  3. Make the Face-to-Face Introduction.

Apparently the house Autumn and I live in has lots and lots of cats so we’re going to have to remember all the names!

Anyway, I like Daryl!

See you soon,

Love

Day 19 of my blog!

Hi everyone,

Casper here!

This is going to be very short and when you see the video you’ll know why!

Do you remember our brothers, Crackle and Pumpkin? Well it turns out that their favourite toy is an extra long tunnel. Their Mum thought we’d enjoy it as well. Crickey, it’s brilliant.

Anyway, we’re off for another charge around!

Love Casper and Autumn

Day 18 of my blog!

Hello everybody!

It’s Casper and Autumn here.

Autumn is helping me write today’s blog. It’s on the subject of grooming!

Grooming is very important! It removes loose hair, dirt and bugs….and it keeps our skin healthy. It also makes us feel great!!!

As I said to Autumn, you don’t stay this beautiful if you don’t clean yourself. And, let’s face it, the last thing you want to see when you look at my blog, is a scruffy old moggy. (nothing against scruffy old moggies by the way – I’ll probably be like that one day!)

Anyway, attached are a couple of videos demonstrating a little bit of mine and Autumn’s grooming regime.

Love

Casper and Autumn

xx

Day 17 of my blog!

Hi everyone,

So… Autumn and I have come up with our Top 10 Toys. Here we go, in no particular order (because we love them all!)

  1. Tunnel (Great for chasing Autumn around!)
  2. Catnip mouse
  3. Feather teaser
  4. Fishing rod (not real fish – they smell too much)
  5. Turbo chaser (In the picture)
  6. Scratching post
  7. Ping-pong balls
  8. Catnip bird (not a real bird – this one doesn’t fly)
  9. Springs (pictured)
  10. Cardboard boxes

I think Autumn and are realising how lucky we are to have al of these fab toys. They help us learn things for when we eventually go outside. They also make us sleep better because we are exhausted!!

However, not all kittens are so fortunate. The people at Cats Protection have asked me to mention that they are running a Christmas campaign to buy toys for kittens who aren’t as luck as us. You can help them by doing something called "donate". I'm not sure what that is but they tell me that if you would like to help you can click on this link and donate! I know the cats that are in their care looking for homes would be really grateful!

Here's to a magical and playful Christmas for all cats,

Love,

Casper

Day 16 of my blog!

Hello kitten lovers! It’s Casper here!

Today I’m going to talk about Play! Whehay!

Play is an important way for cats and kittens to stay super fit and mentally alert. When kittens play, we are also practising the hunting behaviour we would naturally use in the wild. If we are playing with humans, the bestest times are in the morning and the evening. This is when we are at our liveliest!

Kittens love to play with cardboard boxes, tunnels and empty paper bags. These are fun to hide in. Feather teasers and “fishing rods” are perfect for chasing and swiping. Having said that, I reckon Christmas Trees look exciting too. (We can’t wait to destroy the big green one in the lounge)

Anyway, Autumn and I are going to get together and come up with our list of Top Ten Toys….. we’ll let you know what they are tomorrow!

See you folks,

Love Casper

Day 15 of my blog!

Hi everyone,

It’s Casper here!

I’m going to talk about my favourite subject again. FOOD!

There are 5 really important things to remember when feeding kittens like Autumn and me.

We must eat meat. Cats cannot be vegetarians. (so no brussels at Christmas please)

We like to have a complete food, so that we get all the goodness we need in one plate!

Cats like to eat away from other cats. Please place our food bowls in different places.

Please don’t put our food near the litter tray. Yuk! (especially not after Autumn has just been for a poo!)

Please give us lots of fresh water every day!

And, if you do all of these things, we will always be up for a snuggle and a sleep afterwards,

Love,

Casper

Day 14 of my blog!

Hi everyone,

Casper Time!

Right, have you noticed how cold it’s got? Brrrrrr! Although I’m not allowed outside (Autumn and me are still too young!), a lot of my new friends are. So, I asked them what it’s like going outside in the cold weather.

They love it, but only for short periods. When it’s really cold and icy, they much prefer to spend the nights inside. While they might seem bored or restless, pet cats aren’t used to extreme temperatures and can even develop frostbite or hypothermia. It’s the job of humans to keep  them entertained and exercised with lots of toys and feeders.

Anyway, one thing we can all agree on. The best thing for cold weather is a big snuggly blanket. Mmmmmm,

Love Casper

Day 13 of my blog!

Hello fans! It’s Casper here!

As you know, I like to pass on advice on things that are very close to a kitten’s heart. Well, today., I’m going to talk about…..Toilets! Stop sniggering please!

It is really important that our toilet facilities are nice. Cats are very clean animals, and we like to have everything just right. We’re not like dogs who seem to be able to wee and poo wherever they like!

If we are indoors we need to have a litter tray. Autumn and I have put our heads together and come up with our perfect litter tray experience. In fact, it’s so similar to the one that is on the Cat’s Protection website, that I have used their picture. I have included a photo of Autumn and me discussing it though!

Love,

Casper

Day 12 of my blog!

Hi everybody! Casper here!

Today I’m going to talk about Christmas. Whehay!

Autumn and I are really looking forward to playing with the Christmas Tree. However, I don’t want to be a spoilsport but, there are a few things that kitten owners should be careful of.

Festive plants like poinsettia and berries found in holly and mistletoe are poisonous to cats, so keep them out of reach. Tinsel and other decorations can be dangerous if they are swallowed. (both by humans and cats!)

So, yes we want a tree (and we get to destroy ours on Saturday), but no, we don’t want to get poorly. I think the owners of this tree are taking measures too far.

I’ll see what Autumn thinks….before she falls asleep.

Love,

Casper

Day 11 of my blog!

Hi folks,

Well… after our big news yesterday, I am so pleased to report another Foster Fail!

My brothers, Pumpkin and Crackle have also decided to stay with their Foster Family. This is great news as it mean that we have all been taken care of.

Anyway, when Autumn and I found out, we decided to have a mammoth play! Here we are testing out our play pen! It held up well, so I’m going to do a product review on Amazon. Well, I might do , or I could just go for another sleep!

Enjoy,

Love Casper!

Day 10 of my blog!

Hi everyone,

Last night Autumn and I were pretending to be asleep, but actually, we were listening in to our Foster Family’s conversation.

They were talking about how it would soon be time for us to find a Forever Home. I must admit, despite being a bit of a tough guy, I don’t really want to move. I love it here. Autumn and I have been well looked after, we have a very snuggly bed, and, we get fed fantastic food.

Anyway, guess what?

FOSTER FAIL! They’re keeping us! All the paperwork has been done and we are at our Forever Home. Autumn and I were so excited we celebrated by charging around the room, running up everyone’s legs and then purring adorably.

Anyway, let’s be honest! How could they resist?

See you soon,

Love

Casper!

Day 9 of my blog!

Hello everyone,

Casper here! Last week Autumn and I had some surprise visitors. Our brothers, Crackle and Pumpkin came for a sleepover. In fact they enjoyed it so much they stayed for two nights.

In was lovely to see them and to find out that they were just as crazy as we are. Pumpkin and Crackle are both Ginger Toms as well. At first, my foster family thought it might be too difficult to tell us all apart. Obviously, being related to me they are both very good looking. In fact if it was a beauty contest they would both score 9 out of 10. (Guess what I’d score?)

Anyway, here’s some photos. Can you tell us apart?

Love,

Casper

Day 8 of my blog!

Hi everybody,

Casper here! It’s time to talk about THE SNIP!

So, boy cats should have the snip at about 6 months. If we don’t we’ll soon let you know about it as we have a habit of spraying wee about! We can also become very “frustrated” and aggressive. I don’t want to be like that. I know I can be a bit of a terror sometimes, but that’s because I’m a kitten (though I must say a very special one!). Un-neutered male cats are very aggressive towards other cats, particularly other un-neutered males. Their fights result in horrific bite injuries, abscesses, damaged eyes, and infections such as FIV. And none of us want that do we?

A lot of people think it changes a boy cat’s personality, but it doesn’t at all. I will have the snip, take it like a man, and still be the same adorable Casper that you all know and love!

Love

Casper

Comment from Cats Protection: if you have multiple kittens of different genders, it is very important that you speak to your vet about neutering them from around 14 weeks of age, and whatever you do, please do not let them out until they are neutered. You can contact us for neutering vouchers. For more information - Click here!

Day 7 of my blog!

Hi folks! How is everyone out there? I must say it’s been quite cold hasn’t it. Luckily, Autumn and me are nice and snuggly in our foster home!

So….neutering. This is really important. Today I’m talking girl’s neutering.

Firstly, all cats should be neutered. There’s enough unwanted cats out there already! Also, the last thing I want is for Autumn to get pregnant.

Many female cats come into season, get chased far from their home by un-neutered males and end up completely lost, pregnant, and living on the streets. This is how feral cat colonies are formed. They struggle to survive, often hungry, and frequently becoming sick or injured. This is not what I want to happen to my little Sis! So, the plan is for Autumn to be neutered at about 12 weeks old (we would probably leave it a little longer if it wasn't for the fact that I am a boy and not neutered yet either). Until then she’ll have to stay indoors! And that’s great because I have a feeling it’s going to be a very cold winter. Brrrrrr!

See you tomorrow when I’m talking about boys neutering (Yikes!)

Love Casper

XX

PS I have to admit that Autumn is rather beautiful for a tabby (sorry I mean tortoiseshell!)

Day 6 of my blog!

Good morning everyone!

It’s Casper time!

I was going to talk about neutering, but the thought of it makes my eyes water. I’ll save that one for a later date!

So, on a much more fun note, let’s discuss toys.

Kittens need toys. Fact! The more the better. And whilst I wait for the Christmas Tree to be put up, (which I am looking forward to destroying), here’s a video of Autumn and me playing.

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Day 5 of my blog!

Hello folks!

It’s Casper here.

Today, I’m going to talk about fleas. Now, I know you think I’d be far too clever to get fleas, but, unfortunately, all kittens get them. It’s just one of those things.

Because kittens' bodies are so small, we are at a high risk of flea anaemia due to the loss of blood from the fleas feeding. (I hope you’re not in the middle of your breakfast whilst reading this!) Flea bites can also cause severe itching and discomfort, (YUK!)

So, it’s very important that you comb through our fur every day (I’ve attached a photo of my favourite comb – ignore that it’s pink). Kittens can be treated for fleas from a very young age, and I think it’s best if you ask your Vet which treatment will be best.

Anyway, now that we’ve got that horrible subject out of the way, here’s a photo of me looking handsome. (and one of Autumn)

Day 4 of my blog!

Hi everyone, it’s Casper here!

As you know, it’s that special time of year when men are looking to get the “purrfect” gift for their kitten-loving wife. You can go on to Amazon, and put “cat gifts” into the search box, and order the first 3 things that appear.

Come on chaps! That’s not very original. Firstly, you could end up with any moggy, and there’s no chance that any will be as good looking as me. Sorry, but that’s a fact!

Now, because of the pandemic, all the major photography studios are closed, so I wasn’t able to go to the photo shoot, but my foster parents have taken lots of photos of me. Here are some of my favourites so you can get started with making your own Casper Calendar 2021. Just don’t let your other cats see it as they will become extremely jealous!

Have a nice day,

Love Casper!

xxxx

Day 3 of my blog!

Hi.

It’s Casper again!

In my last blog, I said I’d be talking about food this time. It’s my favourite subject!

When Autumn and I first arrived at our foster family, we were being hand reared. This meant lots of lovely milk, every 2 hours. As I’m particularly good looking and incredibly snuggly, my family loved having to get up through the night to feed us! You could tell by the way they clenched their teeth whist they were smiling!
After this we progressed onto baby mousse and then kitten food. (If I mention Felix is my favourite, do you think that they might send me some free in the post?)

At the same time, we were litter trained. This is very important as wherever we end up, we want to be good cats. Mind you, if they don’t clean out our tray, they’ll soon know about it! Our favourite cat litter is made from wood pellets. This is also recommended by the Cats Protection, so it must be good!

See you later.

Casper

xx

Day 2 of my blog!

Hi! Casper here!

So, let me tell you what happened when I went to my foster family!

The first thing I noticed was that Autumn and I had a lovely room. There was also a person staying in it, which was nice. We didn’t think it was appropriate to ask her to pay rent, but we did ask her to keep her music down when we were trying to sleep.

Firstly, there was a large bedroom for us, with a bed, a litter tray and plenty of snuggly blankets. Autumn also requested a hot water bottle to keep her warm. Being a bit macho, I didn’t really need it, but I did occasionally use it, (just to keep Autumn company, you understand). There was also a choice of toys and places to play hide-and-seek. My favourite though are the cardboard boxes. They’re fantastic!

Here's Autumn. Everyone says she's a "pretty girl". Just as long as she doesn't steal my limelight, I'm OK with that....I s'pose she is quite pretty!

Tomorrow, I’m going to talk to you about food – my favourite subject!

Take care,

Love,

Casper xx

Lets start with Day 1

Hi! My name is Casper!

Firstly, I know what you’re all thinking. “My God, he’s handsome!”

Well. Now that we’ve got that fairly obvious fact out of the way, let me tell you a bit about myself.

I was born about 8 weeks ago along with my 2 brothers, Pumpkin and Crackle, and my 2 sisters, Autumn and Buffy. Because my family couldn’t take care of us, we were taken to the vets who looked after us for a couple of days . After that, the wonderful people at Rugby Cats Protection found us foster homes where we could be cared for until we were OK to go to our forever homes.

I was fostered  with Autumn and Buffy, whilst Crackle and Pumpkin went to another fosterer. Although they’re clearly not as handsome as me, Pumpkin and Crackle are also Ginger Toms. Autumn is a Tortoiseshell (though I think she’s just a tabby with an orange splodge on her head).

After a few days, it became clear that my sister Buffy, who was also a Tortoiseshell, was very poorly. After many days and nights when we kept her warm by snuggling her, and countless trips to the vets, she passed away due to a problem with her liver. Her life was short, but she made the most of it. I’d like to think that I’ll meet her again one day.

I’ll be putting daily updates on here to let you know how I’m getting on.

With love,

Casper
