Welcome to Cats Protection Ely & District

We're here to support cats and kittens in Ely & District, covering postcodes: CB6, CB7, and parts of CB8.

We are proud that our branch is run by a small team of dedicated, cat-loving volunteers. Our cats and kittens are fostered by our volunteers at their homes. At any one time we usually have between 20 - 40 cats in care.

As well as looking after the cats and kittens in our care we also

  • Take cats and kittens in for rehoming
  • Run a neutering scheme to support people with low income with getting their cat neutered
  • Support local people with lost and found advice
  • Provide support and advice - we are always just a phone call or an email away
  • Signpost to useful sources of help and information
  • Fundraise - this is hugely important to the successful running of our branch
  • Accept donations to improve the lives of cats

You can find out more about the work of Cats Protection here.

We are also extremely happy to share that in 2025 for the first time ever, we didn't have to buy any cat food because of kind and generous donations from the public - thank you!

Cat adoption in Ely & District

Could you provide a loving new home for a cat in the Ely & District area?

We always have a number of cats in our care awaiting loving homes. We usually have between 20 - 40 cats in our care at any one time. If you are interested in adopting a cat, the first step is to look here on our website where you can sometimes see some of the cats that we have available or look on our Facebook page where cats looking for homes are uploaded regularly. You can register your interest in adopting a young cat, adult cat or older cat here on our website. We are always happy to hear from people looking for cats and you can contact us via email or call us on 07785 418064 too.

Most of our cats are adopted by people who contact us directly, rather than through our website, which we use mainly for information and to showcase a selection of cats. We take great care to match each cat with the right owner. We consider personality, lifestyle, and home environment to ensure a happy and lasting companionship.

We care for and rehome around 100 kittens each year (and around 300+ adult cats) On average we receive between 400 - 500 enquiries from people interested in adopting a kitten. We do not keep a kitten waiting list but instead advertise kittens on our Facebook page when they are ready for rehoming.

If you are interested in adopting a kitten from us please keep an eye on our Facebook page. Any kittens that we have available for adoption will be shared there when they are ready. There will be contact details on the post for how to register your interest in them. Please do not email us to ask about kittens as you will just be directed to our Facebook page.

In our branch, cats and kittens are cared for by volunteers in their own homes. Once a suitable match is found, adopters are invited to meet the cat at their foster home, spending time together to make sure it’s the right fit for both.

Adoption fees:

  • Kittens or cats under 6 months - £95
  • Cats over 6 months - £75

All cats are microchipped, health checked, neutered and have their first vaccination before they leave us. Cats leave us with a voucher to cover the cost of the second vaccination (due 3-4 weeks after the first). They also come with 4 weeks free pet insurance for extra peace of mind.

If you have any general enquiries about your suitability, or the adoption process, please call us on: 01353 468 134 or email us. We are always happy to hear from people who are thinking about adoption.

Lost and found cats in Ely & District

Have you lost or found a cat in Ely & District? We’re here to help you.

Lost Cats

To report a lost cat in the Ely & District area, please call us on 01353 468 134 or email us. We are able to post lost cats on our Facebook page. If you would like us to do this please email us or send us a message on Facebook with your cats name, description, a clear photo and information about when and where it was last seen.

Found Cats

If you find an injured cat please take them to the nearest vets immediately or contact us if you are unable to do so yourself.

Most cats are, by nature, inclined to roam the area surrounding their home. You're likely to come across a cat or two on your travels each day and most cats are owned cats who are just out for a walk and have a home nearby.

If you find a cat or see a cat regularly and are concerned that they may not have a home, here are five things that you can do to help them.

  1. Avoid feeding them. Feeding them will only encourage the cat to come back, even if they have an owner.
  2. List the cat on your local community Facebook page or put up posters.
  3. If you think the pet cat may have been neglected or treated cruelly, contact the RSPCA.
  4. If you're able, and the cat seems comfortable and open to being handled, we'd recommend taking the cat to a vet to be checked for a microchip. Find out more about safely handling cats.
  5. If you have done everything that you can to find the owner, contact us so we can provide guidance and support.

Neutering

We run a neutering scheme to support people with a low household income or who are in receipt of benefits with getting their cat neutered and microchipped for just £10. All breeds of cats can be neutered under the scheme. Please email us for more information. We are always happy to hear from people about this.
