Adopt a cat
BEFORE WE HOME A CAT WE HAVE PROCEEDURES IN PLACE TO ENSURE THAT THE ENVIRONMENT IS RIGHT FOR THE CAT YOU WISH TO ADOPT. FOR EXAMPLE, A LIVELY TWO YEAR OLD USED TO THE OUTDOORS WOULD NOT BE HAPPY IN A FLAT.
We do not charge as such for a cat or kitten but ask for an adoption fee of £80 for adult cats and £100 for kittens, as every cat in our care has had at least £250 spent on it, vaccinations, microchipping, neutering or spaying. So the fee we charge only goes a small way to paying these costs. Should you adopt a more mature puss, we can look at the circumstances and the fee level
If you are able to make a donation on top of the fee that would, of course, be gratefully received.
But please be certain you can afford to keep a cat. Be reminded that there are annual vaccinations and health checks to pay for in the future.
A guide to our homing process
We’re keen to help as many cats as possible, so offering one of our cats a home will help to free up more space to take in emergency cases.
We have put in procedures to make sure that our homing process is in line with current government guidance, without putting adoptees or our volunteers at risk.
Check you are within a reasonable distance of your chosen branch. You can find your nearest branch by typing in your postcode at www.cats.org.uk/find-us

Enquire. If you’ve found a cat on our website that you’re interested in homing, send an enquiry through using our CONTACT FORM OR PHONE 01404 45241

Reserve your cat. If you’re found to be a match for your chosen cat, you’ll be contacted via phone or email. You may be asked for proof of your address and the consent of your landlord (if you live in a rented property)
- Dependant on current regulations, we may do a short home visit or do a video call to discuss your home situation

Adopt. Once you have reserved your cat, you may be sent paperwork to sign, or if you visit us, the adoption form may be given to you. Our adoption fees are £80 for cats and £100 for a kitten, usually by bank transfer if possible

Bringing your cat home. Once this is finalised, we can make arrangments for you to pick up your cat at an appointed and pre-arranged time

Be supported. You’ll receive a follow-up call or email around three, seven and 21 days after the adoption to check that your new arrival is settled in. You can also find help and advice on the Cats Protection website at www.cats.org.uk/advice
