Cat adoption in Milton Keynes
Adopting a cat or kitten
Could you provide a loving new home for a cat or kitten? During the process of adopting a cat from us, we’ll consider everything from your potential pet’s personality and how this fits with your lifestyle, to your home environment – creating the perfect match for both cat and owner, and the start of a wonderful feline friendship. Find out more in the Cats Protection guide to adopting a cat.
The adoption process
Following your initial enquiry, we will request photos of your home and evidence that you are allowed to have pets if you rent. Once we are happy with the home you can provide and agree that you're a good match, we will then pass on your details to the cat's current fosterer and they will arrange for you to meet the cat. This visit is generally within a week or so of the fosterer receiving your details. Following a successful visit, the fosterer will then arrange an adoption date - which is generally within a week or two following the visit (this may be longer if it is a young kitten). Before the big day of adoption, we will send the adoption agreement to be signed online via Adobe Sign and request the adoption fee to be paid via bank transfer. We generally can't hold on to cats for more than two weeks following a successful visit as there are so many cats waiting to be admitted into our care, so if you have a holiday or building work within the next 6 weeks we recommend you wait until you have returned. All of our foster cats are either cared for in a fosterer's private house or in a purpose-built pen in a fosterer's private garden. Most of our fosterers are based in Milton Keynes, Bletchley, Buckingham, Olney or Bedford, so please bear travelling in mind as some fosterers are not easily accessible via public transport.
Please note that different Cats Protection branches may have different timelines, fees and fostering set-ups. We are happy to consider applications from 'out of area' but there is a chance you will need to return to our vets in Oakgrove, Milton Keynes or Winslow, Buckinghamshire for the cat's second vaccination. Please consider this potential journey when applying from out of area.
If you do not hear from us after 7 days, please assume that on this occasion your application has been unsuccessful. This may be due to the cat having a viewing already lined up, an overwhelming number of applications or reduced volunteer availability to process every application. Adoption advertising, admin, correspondence and applications are processed by one volunteer for all the cats in our care, so your grace and understanding is appreciated.
Adoption Fees
The Milton Keynes & District Branch's adoption fees for cats and kittens are as follows:

- Kittens 6 months and under - £120
All cats and kittens will be microchipped, neutered, vaccinated, FIV/FELV tested, flea and worm treated, and have had a full health check.
