Why Neuter?

  • Neutering is the best way to deal with the issue of unwanted and expensive pregnancies - by preventing the problem in the first place.
  • Ayrshire is already over-run with unwanted cats and kittens.
  • Neutering also has many health benefits for your cat, both males and females, so a neutered cat will have a longer average life expectancy than an unneutered cat.
  • The chance of contracting some infectious cat diseases will be reduced, as will the likelihood of developing mammary tumours (breast cancers), pyometra (life threatening womb infections), testicular cancer, and many other illnesses including incurable FIV and feline leukaemia which can be transmitted through breeding and fighting.
  • Unneutered male cats are more likely to end up injured from fighting, or to stray from home. They can often spray smelly urine to attract potential mates, and experience stress from frustration if they don't find one.
  • Neutering is a WIN-WIN situation - your cat has a longer and healthier life, you will have less to worry about, and there will be less strays and unwanted cats in need of our help in Ayrshire.
