A fiver to neuter is talk of the town ...

Members of a Streetly fellowship group were among the first to hear of a new 2016 Birmingham-wide campaign to encourage pet-owners to get their cats neutered – for just a fiver.

Volunteer Sheila Pennell was invited to give a talk about the work of the charity to the group who meet at All Saints Church, Streetly, early in February – just as the scheme launched – and confirmed that everyone  thought it was a ‘great idea’.

Says Sheila: “The audience was very appreciative of the importance of neutering to save unwanted kittens from being born and to keep the feral and community population of cats down. It proved an ideal opportunity to talk about the new campaign as well as all the other neutering work the Branch gets involved in, like TNR – trap, neuter and return – of stray and feral cats. My thanks to Leonora Brown for supporting me on the day, and to all those who came along to All Saints church – some said they booked specially because they knew it was a ‘caring for cats’ talk. We’re grateful too for the kind donations the ladies made, which goes to help needy cats and kittens in North Birmingham.”

** Brief details of the campaign are outlined below; more information can be found on the ‘what we do’ neutering page of the website.

Cats Protection is running a new neutering campaign in Birmingham - the B1 – B45 postcode areas - and it means pet cats can be neutered for just £5!

Those on a state benefit, low household income or similar should qualify for help. There is a link giving more information on the neutering page.

The ‘£5 scheme’  covers pet cats and stray cats where exhaustive efforts have been made to find an owner. Feral cats can’t be neutered under this scheme. Instead, please call the Cats Protection Neutering Helpline directly on 03000 12 12 12 (option 2) where there is advice on what help can be offered, or call the Branch helpline - 0345 260 1503.
