Christmas spirit at pub quiz raises £350 for cats ...

14 November 2015
Christmas spirit at pub quiz raises £350 for cats ... The volunteer team was stretched at the November pub quiz, but raised a smile and a few balloons when they totted up the takings - another £350 to swell the kitty for the cats and kittens of North Birmingham.

Team Catatonic won YET again - and arrived early to ensure they were in good time to choose their favourite name, but a brand new pairing - team name Meow Tse Tung - came along and played so well they were only a whisker behind the winners. Gary O'Brien and Chris Fleming heard about the quiz from the local social media site Streetlife, teamed up with three regulars and almost - sadly only almost! - knocked the Walsall wonder-team, Catatonic, from the top spot.

Says Gary: "A great night, much enjoyed, and we will come again and do better next time."

The winning team once again walked away laden down with one of Jenny's wonderful hampers of jams and chutneys. No doubt the spoils will be much enjoyed by Catatonic's friends and family over Christmas!

Compere Adam Darkes drew the raffle, and great prizes kindly donated included a meal for two at the Cock Inn, cinema tickets for the Empire in Sutton, and Digby management contributed a bottle of wine.

New Branch coordinator, Denise Atkins, took part, and announced that volunteer Melanie Beach would take over organising the quiz from 2016 onwards. New volunteers on the night included Jane Haydock who put together the questions, and Sheila Caprani, who went along 'just to see what it was all about, and enjoyed the evening'.

Jenny Reynolds kept herself busy selling Cats Protection Christmas cards and copies of the fantastic feline 2016 calendar flew out. All in all, a great night as always - with big thanks to the volunteers who do all the leg-and-paperwork - Sue, Lee and Kathy - and those who turn up in such numbers and such high spirits and support the cause year in, year out.
