February quiz raises almost £400 ...

The February Cats Protection pub quiz had 18 teams vying to be top dog and raised £379 for stray and abandoned cats in North Birmingham.

Organiser Melanie Beach confirms there were some super new raffle prizes this time, including 4 tickets to a gin masterclass at the Cellar Door in Four Oaks, a hair-do at the Kimono salon in Sutton, a meal discount voucher for the Raj Mahal restaurant in Pype Hayes – plus a free chiropody session at ‘Ease your Step’ in Wylde Green.

All the questions were linked to the month of February – like Chinese New Year, Shrove Tuesday, Valentine’s day, Safer Internet Day and Leap Year.

The top-scoring quiz team who leapt ahead (as almost ever!) was Catatonic who won the jam and preserves bumper hamper, lovingly made by renowned Cats Protection ‘Jenny the Jam’ volunteer.

For the first time, there was a prize for the team that came in second - 50 Shades of Fur - while the wooden spoon ‘winners’ were team Double-Trouble. Digby staff chose ‘No Idea’ as the best team name.

Branch Co-ordinator Denise Atkins came along and was delighted with everyone’s generosity in buying up the remaining branch cat calendars.

Said Denise: “Thank you everyone who came along, Adam and Melanie for the questions, the Digby management for hosting, those who donated great prizes - and all the volunteers for ensuring the quiz went well. You are all brilliant!”

Her words were echoed by organiser Mel: “I too must thank the local firms for their raffle-prize donations, the hospitality of Digby staff, and our CP volunteers for their support. And a date for everyone’s diary - next pub quiz will be on Thursday 12th May – same great venue, same great fun night out - do all please come again.”
