Help black cats in Brum improve their luck

North Birmingham Cats Protection is celebrating National Black Cat Day on Tuesday 27 October - and paws are crossed that big-hearted Brummies will see black cats as lucky - paws for thought - and adopt one.

"Once favoured by storytellers in tales of magic and witchcraft, black cats have developed an undeserved bad reputation which still bubbles under," says Homing Officer, Sheila Pennell, "but we're standing up for the 'under-cat'
and asking folk to remember that fur colour is only skin deep. And it seems to be having an impact as black cats - at least around these parts - are just a bit more popular than they were. In the last month or two, several black and black-and-white cats and kittens have gone off to their forever homes, but sadly 12-year Old Holly (pictured) whose owner has died, is still on the shelf."

Holly's current carer, Janet Marsh of Erdington, says Holly's had 'one careful owner since she was 6 weeks old,
and it would be wonderful if someone would come forward and give her a happy home to live out the rest of her days'. (Holly's story is on the 'Directs' page and, as with all direct rehomings, Holly is free to a good home.)

An old black boy who has been down on his luck is Buddy. Just now, he's got one eye, 4 teeth, and very little fur - but that's a great improvement on how he was found. And his full story is already on the website. The good news is that he's improving every day so should be looking for his forever home soon.
