October weekend events prove ‘every little helps’ ...

The first weekend in October brought out the sun, the volunteers and the public – and CP's Saturday and Sunday fundraising events totted-up to well over four hundred pounds to help needy cats and kittens.

On Saturday, can shake queen Sue Morgan rallied the troupes ‘outside’ Asda, Great Barr. But explains how a change in policy started off as a bit of a worry.

“What was a concern turned out to be a nice surprise for the last can shake of the year. Michaela Hawthorn, Community Life Champion at the store, said there was ‘a change in policy, we could no longer collect in the foyer’. So after panicking thinking we would be collecting outside, she then kindly invited us into the store just in front of the Customer Service desk. It was a great position, friendly and very generous customers – and we collected £232.27.”

Sunday's summer-sunshine fundraiser was a stall at Court Lane allotments open day

On Sunday, volunteers had nothing to worry about – certainly not the weather! They set up a stunning stall at the Court Lane allotments open day and raised another £200-plus for the cat cause.

Erdington volunteer Lizzie Harding confirms what an enjoyable day it was. “Kind, cat-loving members of the public stocked up on Christmassy goods we had on sale, as well as the usual bric-a-brac and cat-themed items. I’ve helped at the Christmas Fayre once, the Gracechurch event twice, and this is my third time at Court Lane. Jenny, Kathy, Ann Simpson and myself work so well together – it’s fun and raises funds too. We had a great day and the public were so ready-to-buy and so generous – partly thanks to the sunshine, of course! It was smiles all day long. Our thanks to Julie and Rob who manage the allotments – and paws crossed we get a stall next time – the 6th December.”

Summing up both events, Sue confirms that 'every little helps' - it was 'a fantastic result for the cats and kittens of North Birmingham'. Her thanks go to all the volunteers involved - Kathy, Lizzie, Lee, Jenny, Bridget S-B, Jacqui M, Ann S, Andy H, Mary C, Maureen & John F. Special thanks to Bridget for wearing the cat suit – her first time. She now has a real ‘tail’ to tell!
