The purr-fect 'choice' is cats ...

15 April 2016
The purr-fect A popular national magazine – Choice – has taken up the story of a branch cat, Bobby, and the Erdington Drama Coach who adopted him, 85-year old June Walker.

And the focus of the feature is the happiness pets can bring, and that you are never too old to adopt!

The editor of the magazine contacted Cats Protection media department, and they sent out a request to the branches for stories where cats had brought happiness to older adopters.

And North Birmingham volunteer Sheila Pennell immediately thought of June and the circumstances that led to her adopting black-and-white old boy Bobby.

Says Sheila: “We took a call from a local vet that a cat – Bobby - had been handed-in. He was chipped to someone in Erdington, but my name and telephone number was given as contact number two as I’d been his CP fosterer – and needless to say adored him! Sadly, the original adopter was unable to continue to care for Bobby. So, long 'tale' short, we decided to ask the woman who had found him straying – June – if she’d consider taking him on permanently. And thankfully she was keen to do so - much to their mutual benefit and well-being.”

**Choice Magazine is designed for the Over-50s. Their website - www.choicemag.co.uk - says it is ‘Britain’s leading independent magazine for women and men over 50 – helping readers defend their financial, health and relationship assets and provide inspiration to help them enjoy life’. As well as the story about June and Bobby, the April issue covers practically every aspect of adopting a cat or dog – including pet insurance, care, costs - and the charities and organisations that can be contacted for those considering adopting an animal that needs a home.
