Welcome to Cats Protection Tain & District Branch

Our Branch covers the following postcode areas:   IV18, IV19, IV20, IV24, IV25, IV26, IV27, IV28, KW10, KW8, KW9.

TAIN & DISTRICT branch consists of a small team of dedicated, cat-loving volunteers, who are passionate about improving the lives of cats and kittens, who through no fault of their own, come into our care.

We are always willing to advertise lost and found cats on our website and Facebook page, as well as general education and awareness within the Tain & District area.   We do offer help by supplying a neutering voucher to help owners with the cost of having their cat(s) neutered.

All cats taken in by us are checked by a vet and given any treatment deemed necessary.  This could include updating vaccinations/parasite treatment/microchipping/neutering and quite often dental treatment is required, more so in the more mature cats.   We then try to find new, loving and forever homes for these cats, many of whom have suffered some trauma.

We would like to draw your attention to this little poster as we feel it is very important in finding homes for some of the 'not so perfect' cats we take into our care.

JUST A REMINDER: When you are adopting a pet, please take the time to meet the:

SCARED ONES : SHY ONES : ONES WHICH DON'T STICK OUT :  ONES WITH BORING COLOURS or MISSING LIMBS : OLDER ONES : FRAIL ONES :

They have NOT given up, they just NEED you and maybe you just NEED  them too!!!

OUR CALENDAR SO FAR FOR SUMMER 2024

16 June 2024

We had a very successful day with our stall at Tain Vintage Car Rally.  This is a very busy and popular annual event in Tain Community's calendar, where there are lots of wonderfully restored classic cars and motorcycles - some are even up for sale.

We had lots of folks come to our stall telling us about their cats, past and present, and asking for advice on some aspects of their cat experience.  We also had folks asking how they go about adopting from us and what we thought would be the cat best suited to their lifestyle.   A really good day was had by all.

27 July 2024

We will be attending Portmahomack Gala - this is usually a very busy day for our stall and a really enjoyable one too.  Just hope the weather is kind to everyone.

31 August, 2024

We can be seen with our stall at the Seaboard Gala, Balintore.  Again a very popular annual event and busy day for us.  Lots of people here who have adopted cats from us in the past.

We're often looking to welcome new volunteers to join our brilliant team. As well as meeting great people and making an incredible difference to the cats of Tain & District, you'll enjoy practical benefits such as discounted pet insurance. You can find out more about volunteering for Cats Protection here.

Lost and found cats in Tain & District

HAS YOUR CAT GONE MISSING

We always try to help when a cat goes missing.   Usually, the cat is very near its own home, and quite possibly locked in either a shed, outbuilding or garage.

One of the things we do suggest you do in the meantime is scatter some USED cat litter around the garden and in this way it may find its own way back if it has become disorientated.

All we need from you is a photograph of your cat, the area of the village or town you stay, to give folks an idea just where to look, asking them to check all outside buildings, sheds and garages and we will advertise it on our Facebook, Community pages etc.

If you do wish to give us your phone number to allow them to get in touch with you,  that will be entirely up to you.  We would normally ask folks to get in touch with ourselves and we will pass any information on.

You can contact us on:

Facebook:     Tain & District
Email:           enquiries@tain.cats.org.uk

Tel:               0345 3712737 (Cats Protection Call Centre)

HAVE YOU FOUND A CAT

If you have noticed a cat around your home for a couple of days and think it could possibly have strayed from its home, you can contact us and if possible send a photograph and tell us which area you stay and we can advertise it on our Facebook and any other Community pages around your area.

If you live near a vet practice, you could take the cat, if friendly, to the practice and ask them to check for a microchip.  If it is chipped, the practice will get in touch with the owners.  If it is not chipped, that's when the advert on Community pages etc. are helpful.

If you do not live near a vet practice and can bring the cat to us, we can check for a chip or if a volunteer is available they may be able to come to you.

Contact the above number, email address and Facebook page as above.
