Following a call from Cats Protection to develop a Carmarthenshire branch, a core group and a growing team of volunteers are currently running the branch.
Volunteering in general
We are looking for committed people who have a hands-on and team approach. Although these are volunteer roles, we do expect a certain amount of commitment as running a branch does require a lot of work and spare time investing into it. All volunteers are unpaid, although they are reimbursed for any costs incurred, through the branch treasurer. We would like all our volunteers to also take a serious view of our fundraising activities. Without fundraising there is no operational activity and consequently, no cats in care, so we do encourage people to join in a few events a year to help keep funds at a healthy level and to support the team of people who give up their time to do this.
The branch does not as a rule, receive financial support from its national office, except for neutering voucher allocation. National office helped us develop the branch by supplying us with a high quality (and CP standard) pen and now we are fundraising to buy more, so that we can take more cats in. The positive aspect about fundraising ourselves, is that all the money raised in our county, stays in our county.
We are a flexible team in that we encourage people to do a little of everything. For example, our welfare officer will help out at fundraising events and assist with home visits. However, roles that are available include: Fundraisers, Trappers, Fosterers, Education, Rehoming, Publicity and many more.
