Volunteer goes the extra mile in Lockdown
It was all a massive shock to everyone and of course no sports events were going ahead. I love my sports. What on earth was I going to do?

Anxiety affected me so much I couldn't run well at first. But with my usual will power that was soon under control. As well as volunteering to shop, fetch prescriptions and dog walk, I began to run further in laps around my home town. A marathon quickly became 50k...40 miles...50! More than I had ever run before. All wearing my CP vest top. A couple of friends would look out for me as I ran past and take action shot pics. Love it. For my next challenge...100k/62.4miles. I asked some running buddies to come help pace me. I put up a few flags with encouraging slogans and had pink champagne for the finish. 12 hours 31 minutes later I was done. A mate mentioned that they thought I was now capable of tackling a 100 miler. It hadn't occurred to me and I originally said 'no way too far' but I couldn't get it out of my mind. So a week later I started planning how I could accomplish this. Training was more or less done. Support volunteers lined up to help. Flags were dotted about. All support runners of which there were a couple dozen, had their own race numbers with their name on. Photographers were arranged as was the pink champagne and bbq. A few days before the event a very sick and emaciated kitten was handed in. My friend volunteered to help look after him, especially as he had to be isolated. I started running at 6pm. Ran through the night. A few pit stops to top up drink and check for blisters, etc. Weather was perfect. People cheered and beeped as I went past. At 6.11pm the next day I finished. With my mates cheering and taking pics. I had a finish tape to run through and the Rocky theme music playing. All arranged with friends that volunteered to help. I was very ready to stop! We raised over £700 for Cats Protection. I loved every minute and my story has spread. I frequently take part in sports events and people approach me from all walks of life, great PR for Cats Protection 😻
