Found cat checklist

If you find a cat you think might be homeless, then follow our checklist:

  • do not feed it, no matter how starving the cat might appear to be, it may have a home and you would be encouraging it to not return
  • ask your neighbours if they recognise the cat, they might know someone in the local area looking for their lost pet
  • is the cat wearing a collar with an identification tag?
  • if not, use a paper collar, print out a template with instructions here
  • if there are no visible signs of ownership, take the cat to your local vets to be scanned for a microchip
  • contact us at Glastonbury and Wells branch of Cats Protection on or 07833 634087 and we can search our lost cat list.  If needed a volunteer can scan the cat for a microchip. If not chipped we will add to our found list and post to our branch Facebook page
  • contact other animal rescue centres in the area, they might have a missing report of the same cat
  • post a photo and brief description on your Facebook page and local community Facebook group pages
  • contact Search and Scan Somerset on 07870 990771
  • is the cat sick or injured? If you are concerned call the RSPCA helpline on 0300 123 4999
