Find out more about the Cat Guardians service and how you can register.

If you decide that you would like to join the many cat owners who have already registered with our Cat Guardians service, the process is very straightforward. Registering with the service will cover you for any cats you may have at the time of your death, but please provide as much information as possible to help us care for them.

While we don’t have a formal limit on the number of cats we will take into our care, there are obvious difficulties in finding space at short notice for a large number of cats so we ask that you get in touch with us to speak about your circumstances if you have more than three cats.

Once you have filled in the registration form, please also leave instructions in your will to confirm your wishes and to ensure that we are contacted in the event of your death. The suggested wording we use is: “My Executors should contact Cats Protection (Registered Charity Numbers 203644/SC037711) of the National Cat Centre, Lewes Road, Chelwood Gate, Haywards Heath, RH17 7TT to arrange for the care of any cats that I may own at the time of my death”.

What happens next?

Once we have received your completed registration form, you will receive a letter to confirm that you are registered to the service, along with a wallet card, key fob, window sticker and information sheet to notify others that you have made these arrangements. Please keep these and fill them in accordingly. These items will be useful to notify others that you have a cat, and to inform them of your wish for us to take care of your cat in the event of your death.

Keeping us updated about your cats

If you have already registered to our Cat Guardians service but you have acquired another cat or you have sadly lost a cat, it’s always helpful if you can let us know about any of these changes. This will ensure that we have the most up to date information available for the branch or centre that were to take in your cats; allowing our staff and volunteers to care for them in the best way possible and find them new homes that will best suit their needs.

You can keep us updated with any new information by getting in contact with us by phone, email or post.

Make a difference to the lives of even more cats and kittens...

Many people who register with our Cat Guardians service also choose to remember Cats Protection in their will, as a result of the time and effort we are willing to exert to secure the welfare of their cats. These gifts are vital to us, as almost half of the work we do to help cats and kittens throughout the UK is funded by this incredible generosity. You can find out more about how a gift in your will could make a difference to the lives of cats and kittens in the future in our Gifts in wills section.

If you have any questions or if there is anything we can help you with, please see our Cat Guardians FAQs page or get in touch with one of our team using the above contact details.
