National Black Cat Day is held each year on 27 October, recognising the beauty of black cats.

Why do we celebrate National Black Cat Day?

National Black Cat Day was created by Cats Protection in 2011 to help celebrate the majesty of monochrome moggies and beautiful black cats. When the campaign was launched, statistics revealed that black cats took, on average, seven days longer to find a home compared to cats of other colours.

Years later, we're still celebrating black cats in all their glory. Keep your eyes peeled for 2020's National Black Cat Day campaign and see how you can get involved.

In the meantime, take a look at our video below featuring comedian Bob Mortimer as he tells a story about Rebecca, a little girl on the look out for a new feline companion.
