Otso was believed to be around 19 years old when he arrived at our Berkshire Cat Centre after his owner could no longer care for him. Sadly, this wasn't his first time with us. He had originally come into our care in 2021, after being handed in to a local vet practice as a long-term stray.

It's thought that Otso may have spent as many as 14 years living on the streets, and his crumpled ears are a lasting reminder of his difficult past. He may have suffered from untreated ear infections while living as a stray, leaving him with the distinctive ‘cauliflower ears’ he has today.

Unsurprisingly for a cat of his age, Otso had a few medical needs. But despite everything he'd been through, he remained a gentle, affectionate boy with a wonderfully deep purr and an endearing habit of dribbling when he was happy.

During his time at the centre, Otso formed a special bond with a cuddly bunny toy, which he snuggled up with every night for comfort.

Thankfully, Otso has now found a loving new home where he can enjoy the comfort and companionship he deserves. His new owner says he's settled in beautifully:

“He has been the most affectionate, polite and gentle-natured boy from the moment he sat in his carrier to come home. He was relaxed as we travelled from the centre, quietly watching the world go by as we drove home, taking everything in with his big old-soul eyes.

“He loves nothing more than being stroked and brushed, stretching out for more as he settles into the moment. He has just started to indulge his curiosity and as well as beginning to explore, he’ll watch whatever is going on with interest.

“Food is another big love and he does not limit his investigations to his own food, bread rolls are his current fascination!

“I feel very lucky to have him in my life.”

Otso's story is a wonderful reminder that older cats still have so much love to give, and that it's never too late for a fresh start.
