What can you make?

Designed exclusively for Cats Protection, this kit allows you to make six of your own, unique Christmas baubles, or 'baublitos' as we like to call them!

Suitable for beginners and embroidery pros aged 12+ looking to try a fun new project. And the best bit? You'll be helping cats in need just by taking part.

What's included in your embroidery baublito kit?

Each kit contains:

  • transfer paper with 12 mini patterns
  • red fabric cotton
  • variety of thread colours and thread organiser
  • three-inch embroidery hoop
  • embroidery needle (size seven)
  • felt
  • six mini hoops (three cat head shape with ears, three screw-top hoops)
  • full set of colour, step-by-step, written instructions with photos and templates

You will also need to source some extra crafting items not included in the kit: scissors, pen and glue (superglue or wood glue)

The packaging for the kit is 100% recycled, and the mini hoops are made using FSC-certified wood.

About the live craftalong

You can join in with the live craftalong with our friends and embroidery experts Paraffle Embroidery on Facebook from 10am to midday on Saturday 30 November, or catch up later by watching the video recording.

Sign up yourself or even gift a place to a special cat lover in your life and a kit will be delivered directly to their door.

The cost to take part includes your craft kit, exclusive access to our Craft for Cats Facebook group, support from our events team, and access to the live craftalong. You'll also be supporting our work to make a better life for cats.

What is embroidery?

The most basic description of embroidery is the art of using a needle and thread to decorate fabric.

We've been embroidering since at least the Ancient Egyptian times, something that was presumed based on paintings inside pyramids and tombs, then proved true when an intact embroidered floral collar was found in Tutankhamun's tomb!

Embroidery can help us engage in mindfulness, keeping us in the present moment, silencing the parts of the brain implicated in generating negative emotions.

Completed embroidery projects can generate feelings of accomplishment, helping build self-confidence.

Welcome back Paraffle Embroidery

Back for the third time, we welcome embroidery experts Paraffle Embroidery. If you’ve participated in Craft for Cats before you may remember our previous embroidery kits, ‘needle painting’ and ‘stick and stitch’, designed by Sammy from Paraffle Embroidery.

Sammy started Paraffle in 2016, while she was studying for a PhD at Edinburgh University, although her love for crafts started much longer ago when, aged seven, she told her parents she would start a business called ‘Sammy’s Sewing’!

How you will help cats

Just by signing up, you’ll help make a better life for cats and kittens across the UK.

A minimum of £10 goes to help the cats at a local Cats Protection of your choice, or wherever the need is greatest. Your £10 could…

  • Buy one roll of soft, washable vet bedding to keep a whole bank of cat pens warm and cosy inside
  • Cover the cost of two bags of litter
  • Purchase a grooming arch to allow cats to scratch and self-groom
