A severely injured young cat named Frankie who had to have his leg amputated, has been rescued and rehabilitated by Cats Protection Nothern Ireland Branch volunteers and is now ready to find the loving home he deserves.
At just one year old, Frankie came into the charity’s care after a local council animal welfare officer responded to a suspected hit-and-run incident on the North Coast, in the North Antrim and Glens area. On arrival, it was clear Frankie’s injuries were not recent, and he had been suffering for quite some time. He had deep lacerations and old, untreated wounds. It is suspected that Frankie was previously abused and possibly used for dog baiting.
The charity has launched a JustGiving appeal to raise vital funds to cover the cost of Frankie’s care.

Adoption Team Leader, Jodie Burnside, said: “We initially thought Frankie had just been involved in a hit and run which left him with a shattered hind leg. After being examined it was clear his injuries went far beyond that.
“When Frankie first arrived, he was not only injured but also emaciated. He wouldn’t stop eating, which made his previous struggles for food and basic care clear. Now, Frankie knows he is safe and will always have access to food.
“Veterinary teams had to amputate Frankie’s damaged leg and treat his necrotic wounds. Some areas required surgical drains, while others healed naturally.
“Despite the trauma Frankie has endured, both known and unknown, his lovely temperament has never faltered. He’s a goofy character, which led the vet nurses to nickname him ‘Frankenweenie’.
“He's a very affectionate and playful cat, who loves company and is vocal to show how happy he is.”
Frankie’s treatment has cost over £500, covering surgery, vaccinations, neutering, microchipping, and parasite treatments. Cats Protection receives no government funding and relies entirely on public donations.
Jodie added: “Despite whatever horrible past he’s had, Frankie doesn’t hold it against people or animals. He’s been happy around other animals at the vets and is warm and affectionate with all our volunteers. He’s currently in a foster home where he’s settled in extremely well - he loves to curl up with his fosterer, and even sleeps cuddled up in her bed!
“He has truly thrived in our care, and we’re delighted to say he is now ready to find a permanent, loving home.
“We would be so grateful for any donations towards Frankie’s care. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing his story.”
