Glasgow kitten becomes the face of Omaze Million Pound House Draw

A six-week-old kitten who was severely underweight, suffering from cat flu and had had her whiskers cut off has found a loving home after being given a second chance by Cats Protection Glasgow.

Sugar was taken to a veterinary practice by her owner, who asked for her to be put to sleep. Believing the tiny white kitten could recover and enjoy a happy life, the vet contacted Cats Protection's volunteer-led Glasgow team for help.

She weighed just 400g, was covered in sores and had crusty eyes. She was also terrified of everyday sights, sounds and touch, closing her eyes and freezing whenever anything unfamiliar happened. When her fosterer first touched her paws, Sugar fainted in her hands.

Kirsty Ayre, Welfare Team Leader at Cats Protection Glasgow, said: “Sugar was so weak that our vet said only time would tell whether she would pull through. Every noise terrified her, so I carried her in a hoodie worn backwards, close to my heart, because that gave her comfort.

“Time was what she needed, and time was what we gave her. After a lot of emotional work, she was ready to find her own way in the world. We matched her with a family who understood what she had been through. The change has been transformative.”

Sugar, now renamed Meeko, went to her new home in Edinburgh in August, where she lives with an older deaf cat called Elmo. Her new family created a safe outdoor catio for Elmo, and Meeko now confidently uses the cat flap, plays outside and follows her new brother around the house.

Meeko's owner, Jo Griggs, said: “We were expecting a very traumatised and scared kitten, but she has proved to be brave, trusting and very loving. She has settled in extremely well and is like a completely different cat. We would not change a thing.”

Stories like Meeko's show why timely, expert care and carefully matched foster and adoptive homes matter. Cats Protection helps around 157,000 cats and kittens each year through its nationwide network of centres and volunteer-led teams.

The charity is partnering with Omaze for its latest Million Pound House Draw. The partnership guarantees Cats Protection a £1 million donation towards a new East London Cat Centre, which will bring together emergency support, onsite veterinary care, fostering and rehoming networks, neutering and education. The centre is intended to help more cats receive the right support more quickly and to strengthen preventative cat welfare work.

Matt Pohlson, Founder and CEO of Omaze, said: “Everyone at Omaze is thrilled to be partnering with Cats Protection. The draw will change one winner’s life, while helping Cats Protection give more cats the care and safety they need.”

The winner of the Omaze Million Pound House Draw Cotswolds VII, will get the keys to a six-bedroom home near Cirencester, set within landscaped gardens and surrounded by idyllic Cotswolds countryside. Originally designed and built in 1923, the characterful property combines plenty of period charm with modern-day luxuries, and even has a separate cottage for guests.

The spectacular property comes mortgage-free, with all stamp duty and legal fees covered, plus more than £165,000 worth of furnishings. The eventual winner will also receive £250,000 in cash, and can choose to either move in, rent it out for supplementary income, or sell up whenever they wish to become a cash multi-millionaire.

Online entries close on Sunday 22nd November 2026 and postal entries close on Tuesday 24th November 2026. In addition to the Grand Prize, anyone entering online by Sunday 8th November 2026 will also be in with the chance to win an Early Bird Prize of £100,000 in cash along with a Mercedes G-Class.
