Read together. Raise money. Help cats in need find loving families.

Storytime with My Cat is a reading challenge that helps make a better life for cats. We are asking our young cat lovers to take part in a new sponsored reading challenge, by reading to their cat or cat toy for 43 days, in love and support of how long some cats stay with us until they find their forever home.

Sign up for cat-themed rewards

As a thank you for taking part in our reading challenge we will send your young fundraiser a cat magazine that is filled with fun cat facts, lots of photos of cats in our care, a reading record and sticker chart to track progress, cat activities and cute cat stickers!

Raise any amount for us
Along with your thank you certificate we’ll send your child a cat bag charm, one to collect for each season of Storytime fundraising.

Raise £125+
Your child will receive one of our brand-new cuddly Cats Protection cats! Perfect for future story times together.

Raise over £200
If your child raises over £200 we’d love to name a cat or kitten in our care after them!

Did you know that the average amount of time that a cat spends in our care is 43 days? During that time we feed them, give them any medical care that they need and lots of love. All to get them fit and ready for their forever home.

The average cost for us to rehome a cat is £1,233. Your fundraising can help make a huge difference to cats in our care. For example, fundraising just £10.75 would cover the average cost to feed a cat in our care before they are rehomed!

How do I take part?

  1. Register for the fundraising challenge (ask an adult to do this)
  2. Set up your fundraising page (ask an adult to do this)
  3. Snuggle up near your cat and read every day for 43 days
  4. Ask friends and family to sponsor you

Every penny that you raise will help cats in our care live their best lives. Choose one of these fundraising goals or set your own .

  • £28.68 would cover the average cost to care for a cat per day
  • £62.22 would cover the average cost to neuter a cat before rehoming
  • £107.50 would feed 10 cats in Cats Protection care for 43 days
  • £221 could pay for a small operation for one of the cats in our care

Top tips for reading to your cat

  • Never force or move your cat to sit with you to read. You can find a soft, cosy spot near where they are relaxing
  • Don’t worry if your cat walks off, they are probably just having a little break from storytime
  • Use a calm, soft voice
  • Use a plushie kitty if your real cat is feeling zoomie or if you don't have a cat at home

Help cats like River

On a very cold day in November, a young cat called River was found stuck inside a pet carrier near the River Great Ouse in Norfolk.

River, who was just one year old, was scratching at the carrier and trying to get out. Luckily, a family who were out for a walk heard the noise and came to help.

They took River to the Cats Protection West Norfolk Cat Centre, where he was given lots of care, food and a warm place to stay.

Thanks to being found when he was, River got the help he needed. Today, River, has a loving new home where he is warm, safe and happy.
