A reading challenge that helps make a better life for cats.

Story Time With My Cat is our new fundraising challenge, where you can help cats in our care get the love and support that they need, all by just taking a few minutes each day to read to your cat. In this sponsored reading challenge, we are asking you to read to your cat or cat toy for 43 days, in love and support of how long some cats stay with us until they find their forever home.

Did you know that the average amount of time that a cat spends in our care is 43 days? During that time we feed them, give them any medical care that they need and lots of love. All to get them fit and ready for their forever home. 

The average cost for us to rehome a cat is £1,233. Your fundraising can help make a huge difference to cats in our care. For example, fundraising just £10.75 would cover the average cost to feed a cat in our care before they are rehomed! 

How do I take part?  

  1. Ask an adult to register for the fundraising challenge. 
  2. Download your fundraising guide. 
  3. Read every day for 44 days. 
  4. Ask friends and family to sponsor you. 
  5. Snuggle up near your cat and get reading. 

Every penny that you raise will help cats in our care live their best lives. 

Choose one of these fundraising goals or set your own 

  • £28.68 would cover the average cost to care for a cat per day 
  • £62.22 would cover the average cost to neuter a cat before rehoming 
  • £107.50 would feed 10 cats in Cats Protection care for 43 days 

If your child raises over £100 for Cats Protection they’ll received a personalised thank you video featuring one of the cats in our care. 

Top tips for reading to your cat 

  • Never force or move your cat to sit with you to read. You can find a soft, cosy spot near where they are relaxing 
  • Don’t worry if your cat walks off, they are probably just having a little break from story time 
  • Use a calm, soft voice  
  • Use a plushie kitty if your real cat is feeling zoomie or if you don’t have a cat at home
