Volunteering is and always will be at the heart of Cats Protection. It is joyful and inclusive. As a charity, working in partnership, together we transform the lives of cats, people and communities.
From elderly moggies to energic kittens, every day across the UK cats and kittens are in need of a temporary place to stay, and lots of love and TLC! We need more fosterers like you to provide a safe, temporary haven for cats and kittens and provide them with everything they need before they get their chance to land on their four paws and make a house a home.
Cats Protection Aberdeen is looking to recruit Volunteer 'In-home' Foster Carers within the Aberdeen area.
Full training & Cat Module courses are undertaken before your first 'foster' explaining Cats Protection procedures on welfare, behaviour as well as cleaning requirements between foster cats. Home Checks and Visits are carried out by our welfare team.
All cat food, litter trays, cat litter, provisions and on-going support are provided once your new guest arrives. Aberdeen Branch has designated Cat Transport Volunteers who drop off cats to their foster carer’s homes and take them for their vet appointments and to their new homes on re-homing day, so there is no requirement for our foster carers to have their own transport. We will obviously require access to the cats in your care for their veterinary appointments during working hours.
This is a hands-on role making a 'Real Difference' to the cats in your care.
Cats coming into Cats Protection care can range from happy, confident cuddly puss cats that are re-homed within a few days or a week, to our TLC cats who may have medical or behavioural needs or who simply need to regain their trust in humans from perhaps not having the best start in life. Pregnant Queens and kittens are in care for considerably longer and require more one-to-one care, time and commitment.
The Volunteer Foster Carer role is very rewarding. Knowing that you have made a positive difference to each and every one of your feline visitors; helping them on their way to finding their new forever family.
Most of our ‘In-home’ foster carers do not have any other pets at home. This provides a stress free environment for any feline visitors, and importantly, considers the welfare of existing pets at home.
The preference of Cats Protection is to have a designated ‘Cat Room’ for the foster cats (especially when fostering Queens with kittens). We do however have some ‘Whole House’ foster carers that allow their visitors access to other rooms, only after they have settled-in to their own room.
If you would like to find out more about the Fostering Role and to see if you and your home set-up would be suitable, please do get in touch with us at Cats Protection Aberdeen by dropping us an email at volunteering@aberdeen.cats.org.uk or if you would like to apply now for the role, please complete the application form by clicking below on 'Apply For Opportunity'.
Many thanks in advance.

Our volunteer fosterers usually spend around one and a half hours per day (around 10 to 13 hours per week) in this role, but this might vary depending on the number of cats or kittens in care.
