National Black Cat Day

Did you know that it’s National Black Cat Day on October 27th?

Every year we celebrate National Black Cat day to help promote the message that black cats are just as lovely as other cats. Sadly, many people overlook them when searching for a feline friend, with black cats taking 13% longer to be rehomed than cats of other colours, yet over 40% of the kitties taken in by our centres are black or black and white.

Some people think that black cats are boring. Well, we say you shouldn't judge a cat by its coat! All of our cats have unique personalities, regardless of their colour and if you don't believe us, we challenge you to come on down to our Adoption Centre and see for yourself.

In aid of National Black Cat Day, the Cats Protection has created a collection, exploring fifty shades of black cat to show you how colourful black cats are. You can find out more about the collection here:

Soon after National Black Cat Day, it’s Fireworks & Bonfire Night and we’d just like to remind you to take extra care of your cats and kittens during that week. Many people celebrate throughout the week with many firework displays taking place all over the UK. We would advise you to keep your cats indoors during the evenings and give them a little extra care and attention to put them at ease as fireworks can appear quite terrifying for cats. You can find out more around how to look after your cat over this period here:
