We all know the power of a cute cat photo or video. In fact, our CATS Report 2025 found that 22% of people who acquired a cat in the last year said they fell in love with a photo or video online. Yet only 16% chose to adopt, rather than buy a cat or kitten.

This summer, our Meet the Cats campaign is encouraging people to look beyond that first impression and discover the unique personalities that make every cat special.
To celebrate the campaign, we invited three familiar faces to watch videos of energetic and playful kittens in our care. They each came up with names inspired by the characters they saw.
The results are funny and thoughtful, proving that everyone notices something different when they take the time to get to know a cat. And that’s exactly what Meet the Cats is all about.
Ginny Lemon brings the glitz and glam
Performer and cat lover Ginny Lemon brought plenty of glamour to the challenge, choosing names inspired by iconic women and each kitten’s unique look.
Donna Preston names an adventurous trio
Actor and comedian Donna Preston took inspiration from music, TV and the daring nature of the kittens when choosing their names.
Matt Richardson thinks outside the box
Comedian and broadcaster Matt Richardson took inspiration from mythology, art and the kittens’ distinctive markings when rustling up their names.
Every cat has their own personality
There is no right or wrong way to name a kitten. Some people take inspiration from their appearance, while others are inspired by films, mythology, music or the little quirks that make each cat special.
At Cats Protection, we know every cat is an individual. That’s why we take the time to get to know each cat’s character, behaviour and any specific needs before matching them with a loving new home.
Finding the right match helps create the special bond between cats and their owners, giving both the best chance of a happy life together.
