
Cat-loving comedian Bob Mortimer has revealed the winner of Cats Protection’s Alternative Cat Awards. The awards, sponsored by PURINA®, were launched in August to celebrate the UK’s feline lockdown legends, after our annual National Cat Awards had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A husband and wife team are in training for a 46km trek through the Alps next year, all to help cats and kittens in need. Fiona and Chris Coutts will jet off on the five-day adventure in September 2021, along with a small group of other cat-loving fundraisers.

Volunteers from Cats Protection’s Southampton Branch are appealing for donations after a call-out revealed many more cats needing urgent help than expected. The branch was alerted to a mother cat and her kittens sheltering from wind and rain in a hedge near a housing estate by two concerned members of the public.

A black-and-white kitten who captured hearts with her tiny stature caused by a rare form of dwarfism has found her perfect home. Little Mowzer arrived at Cats Protection’s Cornwall Adoption Centre with her littermates after being born to a feral mother on a farm near Penzance.

“It’s a really sad story,” said Lynne Pothecary, Publicity Manager at Cats Protection’s Anglia Coastal Branch. “Baggy’s owner didn’t want to relinquish her but she had to move home and couldn’t bring her cat with her. She was devastated when she heard that her new landlord had a no-pets policy.”
